Misinformation and Anger – Maria Moran
Clinton cannot afford to be the town that continues to damage our property values by devaluing our schools. Clinton already has among the lowest per-pupil spending on the shoreline, and our taxes are absolutely and completely normal. In fact, if you picked up your house and placed it down in any surrounding town, your taxes would in most cases be higher. Yet we are the only shoreline town which, again and again, suffers the defeat of our town and education budgets.
Due to a campaign of misinformation and anger by the “No” side, in the last few years Clinton’s school system has lost the following: our swim team, Chinese program, the technology integration teacher at Eliot, after-school programs at Pierson and Eliot, reading intervention at Joel and Pierson, math intervention at Eliot, and the Rise and Shine early morning support program in math and literacy. Necessary repairs to school buildings have been postponed. Many other things have been lost, such as the library assistant at the high school, which means that students in the library have less supervision and less help. The list goes on.
Damage is being done. Any realtor group in the country will tell you that strong school systems drive strong property values. I encourage your readers to support their town, their schools, and their property values and to vote in support of our town and our school budgets.
