A Powerful Voice – by Al Walker
On Wednesday, April 12, at 7 p.m. in the Town Hall auditorium, Clinton’s Board of Finance will hold its annual public hearing on the proposed town and school budgets. The Town Meeting forum we have here in New England is unique, giving each and every member of our town a powerful voice to stand up for what they believe in. Public support is critical to the approval of budgets going to referendum. State statutes help to set the dates for the referendum process, including the date for this public hearing which now falls during the school’s April vacation.
With many stakeholders out of town, it becomes even more important for those who are in town on April 12 to come to the hearing and let their voice be heard. We know every vote counts, but so does every voice!
The Clinton PTA urges those in town to make every effort to come and take a stand for quality education in Clinton. Equally important to attending the April 12 meeting is for all taxpayers to become informed about the budgets. Our elected boards have diligently worked to assure a balance of services and costs. Voters should learn what cuts have already been made, learn about funding priorities, and join the conversation and become a part of the solution to the challenges Clinton faces.
The budget process is an exciting time in our town, a time for us all to support our priorities and contribute to the functioning of our town. I encourage your readers to add their voices to the conversation on April 12, 7 p.m., in the Town Hall auditorium.
