Doing More with Less – By Aidan Moran

Some people would have you believe that Clinton Public Schools have been experiencing enrollment decreases (as are schools statewide), yet are somehow not decreasing teaching staff. Here’s the truth.

Clinton Public Schools’ enrollment has decreased 224 students from the 2009-2010 school year through the 2016-2017 school year. During the same time period, 10.8 full time teaching positions have been eliminated. This decrease in full time teachers is very much in keeping with the decrease in students. One teacher has been lost for every 21 students.

The increase in the Clinton Public Schools operating budget for the upcoming year is 0.48 percent. That is less than one half of one percent. The increase in the Clinton Public Schools operating budgets over the last six years averages 0.69 percent per year. That is less than one percent. As my teenage son observed, “Inflation’s more than that!”

Clinton Public Schools do an amazing job of doing more with less. I encourage your readers to support our children and our schools on May 11.
